I'm not so sure that we have an option: if you have a TV in the UK, you *must* buy a TV licence. Big Brother is watching (http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/information/detectionandpenalties.jsp).
It doesn't make any difference whether you watch BBC, but they get the vast majority of the revenue. I do watch a lot of BBC though, so fair's fair, and regards the commercial-ridden channels.. that's why I love my Sky+ so much :)
