Who: Daniel
Where: The Other Side (ebil!AU 'verse)
When: Day 24
Invited: Anyone who came through the rings, ebil!dopplegangers
Status: Incomplete
The ring transporter activated with its usual speed and flash of light. Daniel assumed that it was with its usual flash of light as all he felt was the familiar tingle and the sudden disorientation that accompanied ring transport. Fortunately, past experience more than prepared him for the disorientation and his gun was in his hand before his eyes found a focal point.
Weapon drawn and at ready was a good thing because the focal point happened to be another set of eyes – clearly startled to see Daniel and the rest of his team standing there.
For what felt like an eternity but had to be no longer than a heartbeat the two groups stared at one another as if trying to determine what was going on. Each side armed – well mostly armed given Damon's complete lack of weaponry of any sort – simply having a good old fashioned stare down.
Some people would have called it comical.
"Drop your weapons!" One of the guards ordered.
That was right before each of their enemies weapons – a curious mixture of zat guns and pistols - flew out of their hands and skittered across the floor to land at the feet of Daniel's team.
Surprise colored the faces of the guards, and as one they turned and scrambled toward the large pedestal with an archway on it in the center of the – (control?) – room. Only one stayed behind, moving swiftly to the console. He – no she, Daniel realized as her cap fell off and dark chestnut hair spilled down her back – was intercepted by Damon who disappeared and reappeared as quick as Daniel could blink.
"I don't think so," Damon said. He waved a gun at the woman, who foolishly enough did not immediately back away.
"You can't kill me with that," she sneered.
Daniel flipped the safety on his sidearm. "No, but I can, with this. Now, back away from that console." His gaze flickered briefly to the men and women gathered near the platform, "All of you, back over here."
To Daniel's surprise, the woman almost seemed to wilt under his gaze. Then she motioned to the others who slowly made their way back across the room.
"Is it just me," someone asked quietly behind Daniel, "Or was that a little too easy?"

"Is it just me," someone asked quietly behind Daniel, "Or was that a little too easy?"
[Jack] You said the words!
Date: 2007-01-16 03:23 am (UTC)The lack of real resistance was strangly a let down. He helped round up the prisoners.
"Is it just me," someone asked quietly behind Daniel, "Or was that a little too easy?"
Jack rolled his eyes and looked at Jon. "You had to go say it didn't you. You know this is when the reserves get here and have a surrounded. It's like saying 'what could possibly go wrong?' or 'it can't get any worse.'" Jack let the others handle the anarmed guards.
"Hey sweetness, want to slip into something a little less comfortable?" He held up the lazar cuffs that had formerly adorned his own wrists. Of course he kept them. Never knew when they might come in handy. For work or play.
The woman was aparently at least nominally in control here. Or she at least held the keys to the transport home. Either way.
Jack snapped the cuffs on her, and activated them with his thumbprint and the command "lock". Ironic that they were now keyed to him as the owner, not the prisoner. He'd cuffed her hands behind her.
He looked the woman right in the eyes, unflinching.
"They've been programed to explode if they're more than ten feet out of range of my tranciever. You might survive if you hold your hands out in front far enough, although it would be without hands. But from here, it'll take out your spine." His voice held a coldness now. "Ruminate on that for a bit."
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-16 01:09 pm (UTC)Did I do that? she thought, then shook her head. Of course I didn't. Damon did. So much for my boasting about not needing a weapon.
"Is it just me?" someone asked, "Or was that a little too easy?"
"Far too easy," Isabel said, "but right now, I'm not going to complain."
She looked up and spied the surveillance camera tucked into the corner of the room, a little black nub which couldn't have been more obviously a surveillance device if it had been painted in neon yellow with a big sign. It even had a slowly flashing red light.
"Hi," she said to the people who might be watching on the other side of it, before raising a hand toward it. The camera shuddered, then ripped from its mountings and hit Isabel's hand with a satisfying smack. She opened her grip and looked at it. "Hmm. Wireless." She dropped the device and incinerated it before it hit the floor, then looked around again. "Anybody willing to bet that was the only camera?"
[Dean, Sam]
Date: 2007-01-16 01:14 pm (UTC)While Jack restrained the female guard, the brothers zip tied the other guards' hands behind their back. Zip ties, plenty of which was in their weapons bag, were nearly as handy as duct tape.
Once the guards' hands were secured, Dean and Sam patted down the men for weapons. As Dean relieved his guard from a small knife hidden under his pant leg he glanced at Sam. "Sammy, ya gotta learn that disappearing thing," he whispered.
Sam removed his guard's knife as well as his wallet and ID badge. Then he looked at his brother as if he'd lost his mind. "What?"
Other than some addition ammo, wallet, and badge -- (No keys,) Dean noticed -- his guard had nothing more that was dangerous or useful. "Same skills," he replied to his brother.
"Dean..." Sam began wearily. He didn't bother finishing the protest. They'd neutralized the guards, but surely they were being watched. And the stone archway looked way too much like a portal for his comfort. To the other he said, "They're clean. No keys, so their ID badges are probably swipe cards, too." He cant his head toward the stone arch. "Presuming they're doors other than *that* somewhere."
"Sit. Stay. Good guards," Dean smirked as the two zip-tied guards did as they were told. "Sam, gimme a hand here." With no further instruction Sam covered Dean while he zip tied the guards' ankles.
Once that was done the brothers joined Daniel, Isabel, Damon, Jack, and his new handcuffed friend. "I looked through Tweedledee's wallet," Dean announced. "There's no money or normal credit cards. Just a few cards that say 'DHARMA', just like their badges."
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-16 03:19 pm (UTC)A zip tie poking out of Dean's pack caught her eye, and she snagged it, pulled her hair into a ponytail and closed the tie around it. Her eyes returned to the strange thing on the wall which looked to be some sort of portal.
"So... any idea where that goes? And what we're going to find when we go through it?" Isabel shook her head. "I hope it's not another room without a conventional exit. I want a normal door I can open."
[Jon]
Date: 2007-01-16 07:33 pm (UTC)The zats looked normal and the guns were all loaded, no security that he could see. Excellent.
"Do we know where we're going yet?"
"Working on it," someone - Daniel or Damon - called out.
"Fine, fine." Jon grinned cheerfully. "Would anyone like to learn how to use a zat? It stuns people and hurts like hell. We even have targets to play with!"
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-16 08:02 pm (UTC)She ignored that the zat was obviously nonhuman technology, and that Jon was obviously very familiar with its operation if not its principles. It had already been made abundantly clear that there were a lot of people on this island with a great deal of experience with extraterrestrials. The zat itself proved simple to operate, and Jon impressed upon her its fundamental function.
"One shot hurts like hell. Two shots is fatal."
"So I don't shoot anybody twice."
"Not unless you really want to."
[Dean]
Date: 2007-01-17 01:00 pm (UTC)"Me, too," Sam added.
The not-teenager handed the two remaining zat guns to the brothers. They'd already had a lesson in how to use the silly-looking but effective weapons. (May as well use the bad guys' ammo instead of ours,) Dean reasoned. Then he paced over to the gateway. "Two can pass through at a time." Facing the others he continued, "I'll take point along with Private Benjamin here." Both Jon and the female guard scowled. "Fine, you can take her if you want. Let's get moving, already."
[Damon]
Date: 2007-01-18 03:13 am (UTC)"It's not a problem if someone is feeling particularly attached to their alien zat guns though," Damon shrugged, placing the gun carefully out of reach of the guards on the console, "I don't have a problem with going in unarmed."
(It'll be just like being sixteen again. Sixteen and stupid.)
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-18 09:30 am (UTC)[Jon]
Date: 2007-01-18 10:11 am (UTC)He was a little disturbed by Isabel's admission of having killed "too many people," but then he didn't know the circumstances. At least if she flew off the handle at a blonde woman it wouldn't be Claire this time - not unless the world really had turned on its head.
Jon retrieved Damon's gun and checked it over, casting about for spare ammunition when he realized the other guy was still staring at the firearm. He shook his head and shrugged.
"Hey, I don't like killing people either. But if they try to kill me or the rest of you, I'm not exactly going to let them get away with it." The Winchesters were still pacing by the portal. "You might want to step away from that thing until it's open - we have no idea how it operates. Wouldn't want you disintegrating in some big kawhoosh."
Ok, so it didn't look much like a Stargate, but that didn't mean it wasn't as hazardous to your health as whatever was on the other side.

Date: 2007-01-16 02:54 pm (UTC)"What's going on?" Daniel demanded.
"Four hours, fifteen minutes, no contact from Site Alpha Delta," one of the guards reported.
(That explains the alarm,) Daniel thought. Without a portal open, it was impossible to maintain constant contact with anything in a different dimension. While it would be ideal to keep the portals open constantly, it simply wasn't feasible. Each site was required to open the portal for a video feed every four hours. At five minutes past the required contact time, the alarms would sound.
"Dr. Jackson, sir, should we send a team to investigate?"
"No," Daniel answered at once. To everyone, and to no one in particular, he added, "Let's triple security on the portal room. I expect that we'll be receiving company. Also, bring the girl."
"What about the pirate?"
"And Murphy." Daniel prided himself on not flinching when Jackson's voice sounded from behind him. He could feel her ire and annoyance, but Daniel hadn't been willing to pull the clone out just to soothe the psychic's ruffled feathers.
"The pirate ... will be utterly useless to us." That was putting it mildly. "Put him in a cell and be done with it. Murphy, however . . . bring him with the girl. Treat him like any other prisoner."
[AU!Daniel] Bored Now
Date: 2007-01-19 06:07 pm (UTC)(Never undersestimate the power of your enemy.)
Bored now, three long strides carried Daniel to the side of one of the fallen. A tap of his radio activated the device. "Where's that additional security?"
Daniel didn't wait for an answer. His hand wrapped around the hilt of the dropped zat - he wanted the prisoners alive - a familiar, comfortable weight. Blue light whizzed in the corners of his eye. The protective shield crackled and flickered around Daniel. Another tap on his radio changed the station. "Blaise, Kenzaki, I want you in the main portal control room. Yesterday."
(And where the hell is my prisoner?)
He jumped up and turned in one fluid motion. Daniel's fingertips automatically tightened around the trigger of the zat and he squeezed off two quick shots. He missed his too pretty for words tender-hearted double by scant millimeters and the Tomorrow Person teleported out of the line of fire.
Tap. Scramble. Channel change. "Hold your fire." He followed that order up with a thought, (Jackson, do you think you can disarm our guests? I didn't give you that shield for you to sit around and look pretty.)

Date: 2007-01-19 08:22 pm (UTC)The additional guards crowded the room, zats aimed at the new arrivals. Some of the would-be rescuers were crouched behind cover. Everyone seemed to be waiting. Waiting to see what happened next. Waiting to see if thngs devolved into gunplay again. Blaise was tempted to fire a shot into the mix just to see what happened, but restrained himself.
"Say," Blaise said to Daniel, "who's that handsome fellow over there?" He didn't bother pointing at Daniel's twin. Jackson would know who he meant.
"Shut up," Daniel said, but without heat. Blaise recognized the tone. He was thinking furiously and didn't want to be interrupted.
"Shutting up, sir," Blaise said, just for grins.
[AU!Kenzaki]
Date: 2007-01-19 10:28 pm (UTC)Kazuma was on his way to his own quarters when the message reached him. Ducking into his quarters, he quicky checked to make sure he was armed. Not only with his Zat, but with his favorite sword and a set of throwing daggers, two pair. People so unferestimated steel these days, and if the sword made people think of him as "the crazy asian sword guy", so much the better. He intended to keep that reputation.
Properly armed, he made his way up to the control room. Kazuma heard Daniel Jackson's ceasefire call, and frowned. He studied their opponents, and as one seemed ready to fire on their party, he let loose a throwing dagger.
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-19 11:28 pm (UTC)From behind her sheltering console, Isabel peered out and saw the person who looked like Kenzaki flick a throwing knife across the room toward Jon. Reacting with a speed which surprised her, Isabel caught the blade with her mind. It stopped dead in mid-air, hung there for a moment, then dropped to the floor as she released her grip on it. The sound of blade clattering on the floor was loud in the room's post-firefight stillness.
[Jack]
Date: 2007-01-19 11:55 pm (UTC)"Alternate Universe or rapid cloneing. Rapid cloning should be beyond humans for another five hundred years, and it's illegal shortly after. But I'm hoping that's what this is because, Danny boy, maintaining an open portal to an alternate universe is not only dangerous, it takes the kind of know how like the Doc has."
Jack was definately worried. In fact, it took that kind of comprehensive knowledge of and feel for time, space and dimensional rifts PLUS some heavy technological and currency backing. And the power supply? A black hole, or a supernova, maybe. Even if it only used the power when a portal was accessed.
Please let it be clones, he was as close to praying as he ever got.
[Daniel, Damon]
Date: 2007-01-20 12:27 am (UTC)He added with a shrug, "We've done alternate universe before. Clones too. Sort of."
"We can do this the easy way or the very hard and painful way." A far too familiar voice spoke from the other side of the room. Daniel didn't bother to look over the console at his twin. His twin spoke with an odd mix of arrogance and detachment that Daniel only used when addressing the enemy – or politicians. (Which answers the question of where we rank on his hierarchy.)
"My people are holding their fire. Put down your weapons and no one will have to get hurt. Or worse," his alternate continued conversationally.
"Yeah, right." Daniel recognized Jon's voice.
"Mind your manners, Mr. Murphy. I don't like being called a liar." Either the Other Daniel recognized Jon's voice as well or had a better line of sight on the clone than Daniel did.
"Then you won't mind if we turn around and go back the way we came?" Damon asked. He grinned cockily at Daniel from his shelter by another console.
"I'm also not stupid, Mr. Damon." The sound of footsteps on the tiled floor carried across the room and the subtle shifting of bodies. Daniel glanced back at Jack and then at Damon, hoping to communicate with his eyes what he couldn't with his words: the cease fire put them at a disadvantage.
"Unfortunately," the Other Daniel said, "You'll have to be our . . . guests for a while."
"Pass," Damon called out.
Daniel didn't resist the smile the tugged on his lips. (It's always nice to have humor when your back is against the wall.)
[Isabel]
Date: 2007-01-20 11:12 am (UTC)But perhaps his shield couldn't block mental abilities. Damon wasn't likely to try anything violent, but Isabel certainly could. Taking another peek, she sent out her mind and willed the evil Daniel's pants to ignite.

Date: 2007-01-20 06:54 pm (UTC)(That leaves a distraction. They're expecting us to fire, so give them something else.) "Dean," Sam whispered as softly as he could. "I'm about to need medical attention." Dean frowned at him worriedly, then gave the slightest nod of understanding.
Sam's zat gun clattered to the floor. "Aaah!" he cried, squeezing his eyes shut and holding his head in his hands. Not being able to see the dopplegangers'/alternate versions' reactions was scary, but Sam knew that Dean had his back.
"Sam!" Dean shouted. Sam heard him shuffle closer. He hunched over as he had dozens of times from the pain of the damned visions. With his hands out of sight, Sam nudged the two small throwing knives from their sheaths to his hands.

Jack did grin at Damon's prompt "pass" on dinner and a movie, in this 'verse's' style.
"Been a guest like that before, Danny. The food sucks, they never let me play top, they never rescpect me in the morning, and they never call." Jack shot back. "How bout you drop your weapons and we'll take you out. Our treat."
