[Mayday] Seeking the odd ones out
Who: Mayday, River, Ripley, Claire, Chris
Where: The Staff, hallway outside of/in Room E
When: Day 28, morning, after/during Search and Rescue
Invited: Anyone wandering down the hall
Status: Incomplete
May hurried down the corridor, balancing a plate of pancakes, a bottle of Tylenol she'd liberated from someone's bag, and two bottles of water with uncanny ease as she sprinted down the hall towards the bedroom. How could she have forgotten the other two they'd left behind - especially the girl who couldn't turn off mind-reading? Some of the people who'd passed out had admitted they were psychic, and if it hurt them that badly...
She screeched to a halt outside the door, still balancing the food and water and pills - it seemed extraneous given what she'd just figured out, but on the off chance they were okay and recovered, an offering of food without having to deal with a crowd would at least be something.
There seemed to be a whimpering noise inside, although she couldn't tell through the solid door, it was so quiet. May took a deep breath to calm herself before knocking and forced herself to focus on something not-panicky - namely, the pancakes she was carrying. "Hello? Are you all right? I have food. And painkillers."
Well, as peace offerings went, neither could be too bad.

[House]
Somewhere, in the back of his mind, Greg knew he was in trouble as he layed there, dancing as he was between consciousness and un-... and the sound of the knock on another door was enough to cause him to open his eyes. It was only a crack, however... but they closed soon after. Couldn't move.. even opening his eyes took a massive effort. No idea what was wrong, but there was no chance of him doing much more than lying there, while darkness took him again.
(OOC: So close yet so far!)
no subject
"Lost..." River's voice trailed softly as she closed her eyes. The voices seemed distant but still in a state of panic. Her lids squeezed tightly as she tried to block them out completely but with no result. In the back of her mind, a vague voice barely spoke out above the others.
"It's going to be okay. They'll find us. Once the Captain realizes what happened, they'll come."
River's closed lids shot open, suddenly realizing her chest was heaving up and down in panic. The lungs hurt with each frightened breath she took in and her eyes were wild as they flickered around the room rapidly.
"That voice..." River slammed her eyes shut, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Captain's dead!" she half shouted to herself. "Can't-- Won't come." She let out an array of suppressed sobs and bit her lip. That voice was different than the others. How, she couldn't know. It had a whisper of comfort to it that made her feel a bit at ease. But here, in the room, on this island, River felt no ease. She took a breath in to calm herself.
"Maybe..." she muttered to herself, tightening the grip around the pup, "Go into the sea of lost voices. He'll comfort me. He'll come to me." This last sentence she kept muttering to herself as she closed her eyes again.
But as River took a gulp to prepare herself for complete loud-noised turmoil she knew she was throwing herself into, the echoing of a knock came from the door.
"Hello?" the voice said. "Are you all right? I have food. And painkillers."
River scowled and kept muttering to herself, looking at the door.
Without really understanding why, River had the sinking feeling that she should never trust closed doors.
"Don't ever wanna know what's on the other side," she spoke matter-of-factly at the door. "Smother the pain with promises of... painkillers." River threw her head back and began to laugh as she sang out to a familer child's rhyme.
"Pain, pain go away./ It'll come again another day/Just you wait, just you see/ Pretty soon they'll... come... for me...'"
After her song, when her voice had grown stranger and laughter became strong, River's stomach gave a lurch and she leaned forward, trying hard not to throw up. Sobs shook her shoulders and she dropped the puppy to the floor as the clutched her knees to her chest and began rocking back and forth, biting her bottom lip. She nudged the puppy away with her foot when it waddled back up to her and licked her elbow.
