[George]

(Yeah, but you didn't wake up in bed with three other people this morning,) George thought. (With two other girls,) George amended. Although...come to think of it, would waking up with three guys have been better?

And Ami didn't have that voice in her head, berating her for her failings. (Wait--whose voice?) George wondered. Was that a memory? But the moment she thought about it, it slipped away.

She couldn't hear it now; there were no words, not even a tone of voice. She couldn't say if it was a man's voice or a woman's, or put a face to it. Or even a context.

She had no memory of it, but the message had clearly sunk in. George was a disappointment. So--slut, right? Among other failings, perhaps. Maybe that's why she was George now instead of Millie. Maybe Millie ran away from someone. A parent? Teachers? A boyfriend or husband?

Ami didn't seem to think she was so bad. In fact, before she lost her memory she seemed to like George. And she was certainly doing her best to buoy George's spirits.

Still..."Maybe not," George said, "but--waking up..." she hesitated, then lowered her voice. "Waking up in bed with three other people? What would you call it?"
