[Chloe] Look! New faces!

Who: Chloe Sullivan
Where: The Bunker (specifically, the cafeteria/kitchen)
When: Day 28, mid-afternoon (after A Crash and New Arrivals)
Invited: All and sundry!
Status: Complete

Chloe led the parade back to the bunker. The two new arrivals continued to banter--bicker?--like an old married couple, or at least old friends. They didn't appear to remember anything more about themselves than anyone else did, but the relationship seemed obvious in the familiar way they interacted. Occasionally John spoke English, but just as often they spoke a language that sounded like none Chloe had ever heard.

Mad Chris spoke it, though. And so did Ami, apparently. Chloe was feeling severely American, since she spoke--as far as she knew--only English. (But how many languages did I need living in the middle of Kansas anyway?) Chloe thought. It didn't help much. She hated being out of the loop--and not speaking Japanese, or this new one, didn't help.

Nobody had yet mentioned what that language was, either. She'd have to ask one of them about it.

As she walked, Chloe glanced down at her left hand. She'd burned it on the still very hot exterior of the shuttle--and watched as the bright red burn had faded to nothing in moments. Just like the small cut she'd gotten earlier. She thought about the note she'd written in her journal earlier: It's official--I'm a Meteor Freak!

Before Rodney had hacked into her laptop for her, that had meant nothing to Chloe. Now, having read her own files, she understood. She'd changed during her stint here on the island. Her eyes, her appearance, and her ability to heal. (Did my personality change?) Chloe wondered. It seemed possible, even likely, based on what she'd written about others affected by the meteorites--the "Kryptonite" she had in her possession. When she got her memory back would she recognize herself?

It was an uncomfortable question, and Chlow was happy to see the bunker just ahead. She banged on the door. After a minute it opened. "Guess what? More new faces!" Chloe announced.

Rose blushed deeply. "Um... yeah. Some of us were doing... stuff... when we realized we had no memory. But it can't hurt to write things down."

Rose looked back to John. "There are very strong signs that this place used to belong to someone else, and there was a hostile takeover. There's a prison of some sort out there. But those are things you'll have to ask Daniel. He's kinda taken charge, and seems to make good decisions. Several people went to the prison to rescue a hurt prisoner. When your clean and fed, I'll introduce you to people who can answer your questions. I'd like some answers as well."

Rose stopped outside of the men's bathroom/shower. "I think most people are gonna mindpool at dinner anyway."

[John] (tag Rose, Chloe, anyone else)

"That's a good question," Chloe said, joining them. She'd held back for a minute, listening to the flirtatious banter, but John's suggestion caught her attention. "That's why I asked you earlier if you'd lost consciousness. Most of us woke up with no memory. I had the same thought--wondering if waking up was what triggered the memory loss."

John turned where he stood in the hallway to watch as the blond he had originally met came toward them. He tilted his head a little as he looked at her, "Yeah you did ask me that, didn't you. Sorry about that, trying to make sense out of everything." He shrugged a little and dabbed at the dry blood on the side of his face, "I'm not sure if I lost consciousness or not, I hit my head so ... chances are I probably did."

He sighed and looked between the two blonds, "Normally I don't mind forgetting about certain things, you know the whole what happens here stays here kind of thing. But to just have every memory suddenly wiped out?" he shook his head, "Not something I would look forward too on a daily basis."

"There are very strong signs that this place used to belong to someone else, and there was a hostile takeover. There's a prison of some sort out there. But those are things you'll have to ask Daniel. When your clean and fed, I'll introduce you to people who can answer your questions. I'd like some answers as well."

John narrowed his eyes a little as he listened to her. "A hostile takeover?" he echoed, "So, there's a chance that whoever once owned this place could come back and claim ownership again? Spiffy!" he took a moment to glance around him, "Not that it couldn't do with a little fixing up"

Rose stopped outside of the men's bathroom/shower. "I think most people are gonna mindpool at dinner anyway."

John nodded and smiled at them, "Great, thanks. Any chance to be able to figure this mess out would make my day." He turned to head into the shower, stopping to look back at them, "And, listen, thanks ... for all your help today, for - you know - saving our lives." He offered them both a grateful smile which made it all the way to his eyes. "At least we're not dead, that's always a plus." With a tap on the bathroom door, he pushed it open and made his way inside.
