Jack offered Aeryn a slight smile. She was being carefully neutral, but he could see the curiosity in her eyes, where she had a hard time concealing it. Good. Curiosity was healthy.
He turned to fetch a bucket and mop from the small broom closet someone had found at the end of the cupboards.
"Captain...?" she whispered, her voice wavering a little.
"Yeah?" Jack turned back to lok at River curiously. She had that lost somplace else look in her eyes again. Maybe she wasn't even talking to him.
He was reassessing the wisdom of letting her at the guns, even though she was better than anyone he could imagine.
