Almost there (turning in towards the jungle)

It was an hour after their lunch stop that they came upon the wet, ash remains of the campfire Rose had spoke of. It was already mixing with sand, and would be totally invisible in a month or so.

Rose and Tara had continued to chat amiably, comparing things seen families, and other topics, including movies and perfumes.

The Doctor discussed temporal physics and theory with McKay, and to the rest they might as well have been speaking Russian, because by the time Rose heard them spouting higher maths she was getting a headache. Occasionally The Doctor would goad McKay into an argument, or belittle humans and their comprehension of the higher sciences, only to have McKay start an almost irate counterargument. Rose wondered if Doctor McKay, or anyone else had noticed those statements and goading occurred when McKay seemed to flag, or his pain started to get the better of him.

The sun was starting to get low in the sky when the Doctor called a halt.

“Through there, bout a mile in, and we can rest in safety for the night.” He pointed to the dense forest.
