With fewer people in the tunnel, Daniel turned his full attention to the pillar before him. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, wishing for a notebook. Taking several deep breaths, he called upon the Kel'no'reem breathing exercises he learned from Teal'c and relaxed his mind. Although he lacked memories or knowledge of what happened when he was Ascended, there were times when he was able to touch some deep part of his subconscious and call forth feelings or awaken subconscious knowledge. This time Daniel hoped that he was calling forth Ancient knowledge. After a few moments, he opened his eyes to find Jon and Jack staring at him intently.

"Are you done with the zen meditation there, Daniel?" Jon asked.

"Kel'no'reem, Jon. And yes, it helps me focus." He looked between Jack and Jon and rubbed his forehead. "Really, it does help."

"I've heard good things about meditation," Jack smirked. "It does wonders for the mind and the body."

"Sorry, Jack, I'm spoken for," Daniel grinned and then turned his full attention to the pillar. It was time to figure this puzzle out; even if it took all night. (And with our luck, it just might.)

"All right, anyone who's good at solving puzzles, it's time to solve this one," Daniel remarked. He glanced in the direction of George and Verlin . . . and did a double-take. Eyes widening, Daniel simply stared for a moment at the man standing next to George; the man who hadn't been there before or at least whom Daniel hadn't been able to see before.

(Ooookaaaaaaaaaay. Now I'm seeing ghosts too?)

"Um, George, just out of curiosity, what exactly does Verlin look like?"

Jon scrubbed his face as he ran over the options in his head, weighing up which group to volunteer for if it came to a split. Daniel could take pretty good care of himself (as could McKay - allegedly - who also had the mysterious gene) so it might be worth traveling by foot.

"Sure -" He stopped abruptly as the ring transporter activated, snapping at anyone in the main corridor as he picked his angle. "Everyone get in with the pillar!"

By the time the rings rose Daniel and Harkness had also taken up positions with their own weapons, but all three lowered their aim when the distinctive sound of McKay mid-tirade echoed through the corridor.

"And who are you going to answer to when-!" McKay cut himself off, blinking like an owl. "Oh. We're here."

"Is your head far enough out of your ass to notice? Congratulations!" Molly rolled her eyes and made what appeared to be a frustrated getaway, closely followed by the rings' other passengers.

Jon surprised himself by feeling a little defensive of the scientist, but refrained from commenting. "McKay, your toy is just through there - woah -"

"How many times do I have to explain that these machines are incomparably sensitive?" the man sniped, barging past anyone in his way. That reset button obviously worked quickly. "Who knows what kind of damage you might have done by the simple act of breathing.."

The arrogant posturing trailed off as he approached the pillar and stared at it like he'd just found an oasis.

"So.." Jon began, sidling up with his hands in his pockets. McKay looked ready to turn on him again so he put on his Colonel face and cut him off. "Hey! Just wishing you luck, Rodney, I know you just got here. You can quit whining too - you know you're going to enjoy this more than pulling a radio apart, so get on and do your thing."

"My 'thing'?"

"Ya, your thing," Jon echoed right back, smirking. "Figure out the puzzle, save the girls, gain thanks from otherwise hostile natives. This enemy is only human, Rodney: it should be a piece of cake by your standards."

McKay drew himself up, chest puffing out a little. "Well yes, I suppose I do make a significant contribution -"

"Great!" the teenager interrupted, spinning on his heel as he walked back to the rings. Ego-pandering was not his favorite pastime. "I need some fresh air. Anyone else need fresh air?"

"It is getting a bit stuffy down here." Molly looked in the direction McKay had gone. "It's bound to get worse once the Doctor gets back."

She looked over at Tara, who was aparently still recovering from the transporter thing. "Yeah, it's freaky, or cool, and I haven't figured out which yet. You want to stay down here or wait uptop with us. By the way, as I understand it... uptop is a couple miles away. We didn't just go underground, but to a different part of the island."

It was a lot to take in. But Tara had proven very resiliant so far. "My kind prefer the sky above us. And while I may currently live in a cave, I'm still happier in the open."

Oops... Molly realized she had spoken a bit too freely to Tara with Jon there. With any luck he'd still be muddled from all the rest and have missed that.

/WHOA! That was freaky-cool!/ Tara thought wide-eyed as she stared at the rings (or at least where they should be), the enclosure, the pillar, and anything and everything else her eyes fell upon. She smiled at McKay's tirade. Molly found him insufferable, and she could understand why. But Tara thought he was kinda cute and entertaining, in a childish insecure way.

...You want to stay down here or wait uptop with us... Oh, Molly was talking to her. She didn't notice with all the sensory input invading her mind. "My kind prefer the sky above us. And while I may currently live in a cave, I'm still happier in the open."

/Oops/, Tara looked quickly from Molly to Jon. Maybe he hadn't noticed what she said...She quickly tried to cover for Molly, "Yeah, we know all about your 'kind'. Some of us can have minds that love to fly around in the sky like yourself, but others prefer to remain rooted to the ground in the 'real' world." She said as she laughed. "I'd better go topside with you in case that kite flies too high!"

Molly's eyes thanked Tara, but then she wrinkled her nose a bit. "Wait a minute.... are you calling me an airhead?"

Maybe compared to the eggheads. She laughed a bit, to let Tara know she wasn't serious.

In truth she usually had more patience with McKay and others, but her nerves were stretched, like everyone else. She had to rein back that temper of hers before she permanantly pissed someone off.

"Come on, Tara, Jon, we wanna ride the lightening again. You should start selling tickets." Molly gently elbowed Jon's ribs then looped her arm through his. "Does this make you the elivator bellhop guy?"

She was entirly to comfortable invading Jon's sapce. But then he was the only one on the island who likely knew where her tattoo was. If he'd even noticed it.

She reached out and looped her other arm through Tara's. "Let's go off to see the wizard of Odd."

One thing the "ring transporter" wasn't was subtle. Loud, bright and unmistakeable in operation. It was also the source of the only excitement in well over an hour. When the stone rings vanished into the floor again--and that was truly weird--it left McKay, Tara and Molly standing there.

George got to her feet with only a groan of two from sitting on a hard (cold) stone floor for the last hour. It quickly became apparent that some of them were going to leave again. George wanted in. She'd had enough of hanging around in the tunnel waiting for something to happen.

"I wanna go too," George announced. "Come on," she said to Verlin.

Verlin frowned. "Why? I'd prefer to stay here."

"Because..." George said. She thought fast. "Because if I don't drag you along, the transporters won't move you. You're a ghost. You're not really there, so there's nothing for the rings to grab hold of. So unless you want to stay here when everyone else rings away--or whatever--you're stuck with me."

Which was total bullshit of course. Or at least George assumed it was bullshit. She hadn't actually tested the theory, so maybe it was true. And maybe pigs would fly out of Verlin's ass too. But nobody else was in a position to argue the point.

"Fine," Verlin said, making his annoyance clear. He got lightly to his feet. One of the benefits of being intangible--you didn't get a numb butt sitting on a cold stone floor.

"Okay," George said, turning to Molly and Tara. "We're ready to go."

"Nothing wrong with flying in the sky," Jon commented, his nasty suspicious mind jumping from the mention of 'my kind' to hurried giggling. She'd looked human enough, uh.. when.. hey, where's that arm going?!

Next thing he knew he was wedged into the circle with three not-unattractive young women. Not the best place for a 17/18 year old male body to be, whomever it belonged to, though the thought of George's +1 was spooky enough to temper the effect.

"Bellhop? Uh, sure. I guess. That'll be one guava. Though I can't activate them if I'm traveling too -"

"I got it," Harkness stepped up to the controls, smirking at Jon's discomfort. Of course he'd know how to work the damned thing, and was taking his own sweet time punching in the sequence. "Don't do anything I wouldn't, kid. Though that ain't much."

"Ha ha."

Going up!
