[Fisher] A Guard's Eye View of Grim Reapers (no tag yet)

Ami Jackson and Boone screamed in unison for a moment, then the woman collapsed. Fisher watched her fall without moving. She fell heavily and didn't move. (Okay, she isn't faking,) he thought.

Fisher sensed motion to his right and looked over to see Jacob grab Daisy's wrist as she climbed unsteadily to her feet. Then she touched his arm and Jacob collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut. His head bounced off of the metal footrail of the hospital bed with an audible clunk, and another when he hit the floor.

It was so unexpected that Fisher could only stare for a moment. Daisy took two steps forward, reaching for Dr. Sakai. But Dr. Sakai turned at the noise. Fisher heard her gasp and watched her leap back.

Dr. Wilson also turned. He glared at Daisy, his chin coming up in an arrogant expression. Fisher backed toward the door. (Wilson is a fucking idiot,) Fisher thought. (He thinks he's still got leverage.)

"Daisy," Wilson said in an imperious tone, "stop right there! Don't make us--"

Fisher watched Daisy reach out to touch her finger to his lips. "Shhhhh," she told him. Wilson folded like a cheap mattress.

"Fuck me," Fisher muttered and bolted for the door. "Help!" he bellowed, all considerations of image or professionalism ruthlessly jettisoned. He was worried only about survival now. He needed to get out of the room before the Grim Reaper laid hands on him.

"Grim Reaper" they'd called her, and Fisher had filed that under superstitious mumbo-jumbo. The sort of fantasy story used by primitives to pigeonhole things they couldn't explain. She was just another genetic freak, like the other psychics or mutants Dharma was rumored to have studied, or had captured here.

Now, watching her drop people with a touch, Fisher wasn't so sure. Fisher glanced over his shoulder as he struggled with the door. Daisy had backed Dr. Sakai against the wall. She caressed Sakai's face; Sakai's eyes rolled up and she slid down the wall.

Daisy turned her attention on Fisher. Fisher felt his bladder let go. He almost sobbed with relief when he finally managed to unlatch the door and fling it open. The guard stationed outside stared into the room, eyes wide.

"What the fuck is--" he yelled. Fisher shoved him aside and bolted from the room. He didn't look back. He didn't have to look back to know what had happened to the guard when he heard another body hit the floor.
