[Daniel] Day 20: Debriefing (open tag)
Daniel waited quietly, going over the notes in front of him, while waiting for everyone to have some breakfast and get on the same page. The notes were simply a way to organize his thoughts and a list of questions he wanted to ask, systems that needed to be investigated, observations that he'd made about the prisoners and the facility.
"Okay then, I'm not seeing any dusty rocks so what do you –" Jon leaned over his shoulder to peer at the writing and stopped in mid-sentence. "Do you do anything the normal way, ever, Daniel?"
"What's the problem, Jon? Not up on your Gaelic?"
"You're writing notes in Gaelic. If I ask why are you going to tell? You know without boring me to death before I'm actually legally old enough to drink?"
"It's a precaution," Daniel explained. "Our friends here, and I do use the term friends quite lightly, have access to –" Daniel paused, then decided that there was really no point in not saying it aloud, "—Ancient technology. They might be able to read it.
"I thought about all the other languages, but didn't want to chance that they knew one of those."
"Right. Makes perfect sense," Jon rolled his eyes. He kicked out a chair and dropped into it. "So, what's the big game plan? Interrogation? Torture? Throw them to the smoke monster?"
"Sounds good to me," someone muttered.
"It looks like we're all present and accounted for," Daniel looked up at those assembled and smirked at Dean balancing two plates of food. That seemed awfully domestic for Faith, but he could be wrong. "At least all of us whom are going to be present and accounted for.
"Let's get down to it, then."
"What are we doing with them?" Damon asked. The red head didn't have to point out which them he referred to.
"Before discussing the prisoners, I'd like to go over a few other things. This is the easy stuff." Daniel looked at Rodney and then the Doctor and gave them both a nod. "The Doctor and Rodney spent a lot of time working with the start you gave us, Damon. This entire complex is under our control now and completely separate from any other systems that these DHARMA people might have or do have running.
"That doesn't mean that we can let our guard down. It's entirely possible that they are planning a counterstrike. We do have several of their people, and I'm sure that they'll want them back. We'll keep the outside guard rotations at night. The cameras do have a lens to shift to night vision and we can engage the perimeter lights if we chose to do so.
"This place has food and supplies, but we don't know what or how much. Someone, probably several someones, are going to need to take stock of what's in the pantry, what's in the storeroom and what's in the kitchen. Also, I'll see if Dr. Pierson can't take stock of the medical supplies, particularly the drugs that we might need."
No one interrupted to ask why he hadn't chosen House.
"Preliminary checks and a bed count reveal that this facility sleeps 22. I'm not going to assign rooms. We're all adults, and I'm sure you can figure it out. There are twenty beds. There are a limited number of rooms. Some of you are going to be roomies, if you want to have a roof over your head. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
"In addition to inventory, someone is going to need to go back to the garden, the tunnel, the Beach Camp and Camp Serenity, to brief them on the situation here. We have a jeep, which won't be as fast as the other methods of transport available to us, but a jeep won't physically tire anyone out."
"A jeep that has to go in two different directions. That's going to take time," Damon pointed out. "Whichever way the jeep doesn't go, I will." He didn't elaborate. He also didn't sound happy about volunteering. Given his preoccupation with finding Claire and being with Claire, Daniel wasn't surprised.
"Let's not jump the gun, Damon. We'll see what we need," Daniel said quietly, giving the other man a sympathetic nod. "Last but not least, we have the prisoners. Some of them got away, and chances are that the ones who escaped will come for their people. We need to be prepared, and before we decide what to do with them, we need to find out a lot more about them."

(frozen comment) [Daniel, Faith] Calming Down (open tag)
He was glad that she was standing to the side of him. Still, he was a normal red-blooded heterosexual male and he had to force himself to look away for propriety's sake. He opened his mouth to remind her to put on some clothes – evidently Tara's magical ripple had completely banished Faith's clothes and not rendered them invisible – and changed his mind. Without a word, he walked over to one of the deserted mattresses from the night before, snatched up a blanket and wrapped it around Faith without looking at every inch of her body on display and without touching more than her shoulders.
"Tired of enjoying the view?" Faith's smirk was firmly in place.
"While I'm not surprised that you are quite confident and comfortable with your body, Faith, let's have a small measure of respect for the others present, all right?"
Faith shrugged, "Sure, no problem." She began fiddling with the blanket, pulling it off one shoulder and working it under her arms – all somehow without flashing the entire kitchen (again).
"Faith, what are you –"
"Toga," Faith supplied without looking up from what she was doing. "I know I *could* go get some scrubs, but I don't want to miss anything."
"Of course," Daniel remarked dryly, watching Dean leave with the new young woman. Faith watched as well, smirked, but didn't seem to care.
"Yes, well I think the meeting was interrupted by Tara's magical run off, so instead of showing us your expertise in ancient clothing, why don't you get some scrubs – and keep an eye on the lovely new young lady who washed up onto the beach," Daniel instructed.
"Don't trust Dean?"
"Do you trust Dean?"
"Hey, I screwed him, I didn't marry 'im."
Daniel sighed. That wasn't at all what he was getting at. "Faith –"
"Yeah I know, Dean's dick my trip him up if she's a plant or some shit like that, whereas my love of dicks won't let it happen."
He realized he must have been growing used to Faith. Her straightforward, frank description didn't even make him blink. In fact, he gave her bemused smile. "Not the words I would have chosen, but yes."
"And 'sides having the new guy – that we don't know – alone with the new girl that we don't know, not the smartest thing to do."
Daniel nodded at Faith's perception. She was smarter than she looked – and acted. "Nail on the head."
"But you weren't worried about me screwing him?"
"Somehow, Faith, I think that Dean was in more danger alone with you than vice-versa."
Faith grinned proudly. "Update me on the sitch when I get back?" Faith was already leaving the kitchen and tossed the last back over her shoulder.
"I'll try to remember to keep you in the loop," Daniel said.
