[Daniel] Day 20: Getting Back on Task (open tag)

With things more or less, back to normal, Daniel resumed the briefing minus a few additional bodies. He knew that Molly was tending to Tara, and that May and Chris had presumably gone in that direction as well. Rodney was working on finding a way to dampen down Tara and hopefully the Doctor would be able to provide assistance in that endeavor as well. Faith was assigned to Isabel duty and he trusted that Molly and Chris would be able to keep an eye on May. As helpful as the young woman and the Winchester boys had been thus far, he still wasn't ready to lower his guard completely.

"So, who wants to go back to the beach and who wants to drop in on Camp Serenity?" Daniel asked. They'd made watch rotas, decided on whom was going to take inventory of what rooms and how to reorganize. A preliminary claim to rooms had been made, although there were still some rooms free and empty, and some people were indecisive. By unspoken, but somehow mutual decision, Daniel, the Doctor, Blaise, Jon and Locke had decided that the four new arrivals – Dean, Sam, May and Isabel – would not be left alone until they were sure of them. The Doctor had implied in last night's meeting in the control room that the first three so far hadn't seemed to lie to them and seemed trustworthy, but better to err on the side of caution. Once they delved into DHARMA's computer files, they'd have more information.

"It would probably be a good idea to send the jeep to the beach, and take advantage of more … extraordinary means … to get to Serenity," Daniel added. "I'm sure that people will want some of their personal items brought back from the beach and the caves, and the jeep has cargo space."

On his way to the showers Scott prayed that Ripley's wounds weren't severe, or that they'd mostly healed already. (She's a hybrid. A human-bug-like alien hybrid. I could do more harm than good.) A pulse of sleepy encouragement carried over his link with Ami. Scott smiled briefly. /Thanks, love./

The scene inside the bathroom was something Scott could have done without. Jon, Aiden, Ripley, and Boone were soaked to the bone, and the latter two were naked. The fact that Aiden would do well in a wet T-shirt contest was cancelled out by the hideous chemical burns splattered across Boone's skin, and that Ripley looked like a life-sized action figure riddled with bullet holes. As if that weren't enough, the coppery tang of blood and sour acid hung in the humid air.

Pierson immediately checked on Boone. "Unconscious, but stable." He grimaced at the man's chemical burns. "Better off unconscious."

Jon waved Scott over to Ripley. "She stopped bleeding on her own." He smirked. "My shoes haven't melted off, so we must've rinsed off or diluted the acid enough."

Scott nodded and moved to Ripley, who seemed to be sleeping on top of the soaked, acid-burned table. Then her nose twitched. "Cookies," she murmured. "Honey." She grinned as her eyes fluttered open. "Who brought the dessert tray?"

The Doctor and Scott chuckled. Everyone else -- particularly Aiden -- was baffled. Scott laid one hand on her shoulder. Although most of his attention was on her not-quite-human anatomy, he got her talking. "Pierson, I guess. How're you feeling?"

Ripley chuckled, then coughed. "The truth? Pretty crappy."

"That's what you get for throwing yourself in front of bullets," Scott replied. Ripley's physiology was strange. Some parts were nearly human, others partially, and the rest completely, well, alien. Of the four bullet wounds, only one seemed serious. The bullet had passed clear through her torso, somehow only hitting what Scott thought was one of her three kidneys.

"Heh. Some gratitude," Ripley muttered. Her eyelids were getting heavy.

The Doctor frowned at Ripley over Scott's shoulder. "Well?" he prompted in a near whisper.

"One of her kidneys was hit," Scott replied at the same volume. "At least I think it's her kidney. I'm going to try to--"

"For fuck's sake, just do it," Ripley grumbled. "I can hear every word, and it hurts like a sonofabitch."

Scott smiled at his tough-as-nails friend as his sphere glowed in his closed fist. "Okay." He directed the energy to Ripley's immune system, helping it to mend the torn maybe-kidney tissues more rapidly. Since he wasn't actively doing anything progress would be slow. And it was.

Fifteen minutes later Scott dropped the connection with his sphere simply because he couldn't concentrate anymore. He felt like a wrung-out dishrag. "That's it," he managed, leaning on the impromptu gurney. "I'm done. Can't do any more today. It's about 80% healed." Thankfully Ripley was a fast healer normally. The bullet holes were well on their way to closing over.

Ripley was out like a light now that the pain was gone. Wet, naked, but with most of her wounds in an advanced state of healing.

Rose hugged Scott, not caring that she was soaked through. "You did more than anyone else could do. You saved her life while the rest of us were pretty much helpless. Be sure to rub that in when she wakes up." Rose grinned.

"Right. Add to the ever expanding things to do, rig up some acid proof gloves and aprons as well as surgical supplies." The Doctor checked to be absolutely sure Ripley's bleeding had stopped.

"Okay we need to get her out of here and someplace warm. Don't want Scott to have drained himself only to lose Ripley to hypothermia and shock."

Rose knew she was in no condition to help carry Ripley out. But she did help dry the other woman off.

Once she was dried and wrapped in some towels Rose saw the Doctor working with Adam over Boone.

"Come on, then, Scott. I think Ami needs you more than me. You're her official teddy bear, now." Rose was feeling the cold herself. Once she saw Scott to Ami, and assured herself Ami was alright, then she was going to go looking for the room the Doctor had mentioned claiming for her.

The Doctor refused to let the sight of Rose in wet scrubbs distract him. At least on a tangible level.

"I can get the regenrator working on Boone, but the deeper burns are going to leave some nasty scars. Nothing like's left on his mind, though." Pierson was making sure the boy's wounds were fully flushed with baking soda and water.

"Get him moved to a room as soon as you can. I think those handcuffs might come in handy. I'm going to go see if there's magnesium sulfate in the lab and I'll mix up an IV for him. I'm better at the chemistry end anyway."
