Aeryn followed in silence, until John pestered her persistently to make sure she wasn't hungry.
"Listen to me" she hissed, pulling him aside from the group for a moment. "I think there's a frell of a lot more to think about than if your stomach's growling, or if mine is. I'm more worried about finding out WHO we are."
She watched his blue eyes, looking at the hurt and anger that mingled there. For a fleeting instant, she wanted to kiss him, to chase away that look. But the moment passed.
"Are you always this frelling argumentative? Yotz ... you'd think I was asking you to surrender your pulse pistol or something, and for some reason I just know that would be a really bad idea. All I asked was are you hungry? Simple enough frelling question, don't you think? I wasn't asking to sleep with you for frell's sake."
Again, Aeryn fell into silence, as they continued walking and eventually came to a forbidding looking doorway. It looked like a conrete bunker... which is not surprising, since that was it's function.
She (Chloe) banged on the door. After a minute it opened. "Guess what? More new faces!" Chloe announced.
Aeryn followed, well aware of the stench of charred leather and fresh blood. She looked around, hopeful for a moment that there might be water and clean clothing... perhaps. But none of the women she'd seen so far even seemed to approach her size. That could be a problem.
John was pulling away from her, she could feel it and that made her feel more isolated. However, she preferred that for a moment, until she could at least work out some of the mess of thoughts in her head. She saw John watching the blonde and a surge of jealousy filled her heart. With a calm gaze, though, she forced such puerile thoughts down into the deepest depths and wouldn't let them show.
But she did feel (and maybe show a little) concern for her companion; John seemed to deflate as he realised they were fairly safe now, as if exhaustion had finally caught up with him.
