The electronic, crystal, and over-his-head bits of technology in the Geek Lab were the only things capable of keeping Scott's mind off of Ami. Unfortunately McKay's abrasiveness warred with Scott's fascination. If not for empathy he wouldn't have been able to remain in the same room with the arrogant Canuck for two hours. After only 15 minutes McKay had tried to throw Scott out. Rather than start a fight, Scott had empathically persuaded the man to believe he'd be careful and not break anything. The curmudgeon looked down his overeducated nose at Scott, but grudgingly let him stay.
Scott had nearly figured out how a crystal-tech circuit worked -- "That? Tinker toys," McKay had sniffed -- when exhaustion began to overtake his curiosity. Tired and fed up with McKay's attitude, Scott scowled at the scientist, said goodnight, and left.
Again Scott hesitated outside of their room. Although he very much wanted to see (and feel and taste) Ami again, he wasn't sure if she felt the same way. They'd kept their link constricted for the past few hours, and he didn't dare ask. A non-amnesiac part of his brain said that people don't normally hop into bed a few hours after meeting. But the situation was far from normal, and Ami felt right, and--
/Are we going to go through this each time you want to enter *our* room?/ Amusement and a hint of nervousness accompanied Ami's thought.
Scott grinned self-consciously as he reached for the doorknob. /Not anymore./ The sight of Ami lounging on *their* bed in a curve-hugging dark green nightgown made him freeze in mid-step. "Guh." After wrestling his libido under control Scott entered and closed the door behind him. /That's hormone-ese for 'You look fantastic,'/ he blushed.
