Ami swelled with both pride and a bit of embarrassment from the compliment. /Thank you./
She ducked her head for a moment, although a smile turned up the corners of her lips. After tucking her hair behind one ear with a nervous hand, Ami looked up and met Scott's gaze. Ami told herself that it didn't make sense that her heart skipped a beat, but denying the reaction didn't make it any less real. It didn't make sense, but nothing about this situation or anything that she read in her journal truly did.
Scott's evident embarrassment eased hers. Ami sat up, pulling her feet beneath her. "You're cute when you're embarrassed. Cuter." The words slipped out before she could stop them and Ami did her best to hide her additional embarrassment behind a nervous giggle. "I suppose we should talk then?"
Thinking of how they managed to avoid talking earlier – albeit a more than pleasant distraction – made Ami shift restlessly. The memories, combined with some of the things she read in her journal sent her thoughts in a direction that wasn't conducive to conversation. Discomfiture mingled with lust and it took her a moment or two to wrest the two under control.
"Scott, I have to say something before," Ami waved her hand uselessly in the air as she floundered for words and finally gave up. "I know this is all very strange and weird, for both of us. But, we were together before and I'm fine with that. I like you. I mean, I don't really know you, but I feel like I do know you and I like you and I like being with you . . . and being with you.
"I completely understand if this is weird for you and more than you can handle though. I'm fine with that, as well. With giving you space and staying out of your head, or whatever you want, all right?"
Her initial instinct was to look away, but somehow Ami forced herself to hold his gaze.
