"We came out this way. Not even a scratch. You want those ribs fixed? A night of sleep without a care that anything might attack?" The Doctor goaded while shifting the wight of the backpack he had relieved Rose of at lunch. "Nothing to it. The Transmitter's in the jungle, so you might as well get used it it."
Rose rolled her eyes and looked to Ash and Tara, wondering if they found Doctor McKay's balking as humourous. But the hint of movement out of the corner of her eye pulled her attention.
It was... a puppy. The cutest little bundle of golden fur loping at them over a sand dune.
For a moment she scanned the treeline, looking for an angry wild dog mum, but she didn't see anything, and this pupp was defintely making a beeline for them, not afraid at all.
"Look." She tugged Tara's arm briefly before moving a few steps closer to the oncoming pup and crouching down, her hand out for sniffing. "Aren't you just the cutest thing?"
The Doctor turned to see her fawning over a puppy, then his eyes tracked to the top of the dune. His body tensed. "She's not alone."
