The side of her face and her shoulder were starting to throb with her heartbeat, which was pounding so fast now. Her face had never actually hurt this much. Too bad she couldn't say the same for her shoulder. She'd wrenched it from its socket once. This was almost as bad.
"Your traveling companion is known as the Doctor. This is a title, not a name. What is his name?"
Rose wouldn't let further tears fall. "I don't know. Really, I don't. Only ever called him the Doctor."
"You seem to know surprisingly little about a man you've spent considerable time with. Need I remind you of the consequences if you do not cooperate?" The woman almost smiled.
Rose decided her eyes weren't beady. They were like a reptile. She was staring down the prey before she pounced. She gave cold blooded a bad name.
"I'm tellin' the truth," she protested. If there was a God in this fucked up universe, she prayed to him now, not to let Ami or Claire die because people wouldn't believe her even when she was cooperating.
"Why doesn't your key open your transport?" The woman asked flatly.
Oh, there was something she could answer, and it wouldn't help them one bit.
"You tried to get in." It wasn't a question. All these questions about the Doctor and they had her key, of course they tried to get in. "Had an incident, a while back. I lent my key to a temporary passenger, of sorts. Others almost got it. So the Doctor placed a key on the key. Called it genetic, biofeedback recognition. The lock is set to open for only certain people. And it reads emotion. If there is none, or if there is coercion, the door won't open. The person has to be alive and willing to open the door.”
Rose didn’t tell them the ship itself read those emotions, that she was alive. She’d protect what she could.
“There are foreign and unknown chemical compounds in your blood. What are they?” Reptile woman was making notes again.
“Immunizations. Got a whole round of ‘em when I got a bit sick once. Like you’d get malaria shots if you were going traveling. I don’t know they’re names, or where he got them. I just trusted him to want to keep me from getting sick.” Rose’s heart ached with pain to match that physical sensation along her face and shoulder.
She hated giving this much away. But she couldn’t get the sight of Daisy, of the blood, the fear, out of her mind. Mentally she saw Ami and Claire’s faces superimposed.
She could only hope the Doctor would get here soon. She didn’t doubt for a moment he was trying to find her. Him and Jack. Most likely Scott and John as well. More people too, as they were mostly a descent sort. She hated waiting for rescue. She wasn’t the damsel in distress type. But look where her efforts had gotten her. Had gotten Daisy.
The light was growing a bit dimmer on the left side of the room, and her field of vision was narrowing. She’d most likely gotten a black eye. Felt like it. At least the pain meant she was alive. Daisy wouldn’t feel pain again.
She missed the next question as she shivered. The room’s temperature was dropping.
Where was she, again? There was blood everywhere. Why wouldn’t the woman just shut up and let her alone? Her teeth began to chatter.
