May spaced out for a moment or two, reliving the scariest moments of those nine months: coming home to find her Mom passed out on the floor, having to literally fight her way to the hospital when she found out Mary Jane had been rushed there, and fearing the worst when she saw her father in tears in the hallway. (Turned out he'd seen the news and thought she'd been pounded into the pavement and was beating himself for not going to help.)
"They want her son."
May snapped back to reality at Sam's revelation. She shuddered at the thought. She very nearly HAD been the stolen child herself - if not for Kaine's intervention, she wouldn't have been returned to her parents. She didn't want to think about what her fate would have been. Probably a brainwashed little psychopath like Elan.
No way was she going to let someone do that to a mother and baby.
She noticed that Dean was looking at her and realized her flashback was written all over her face. "I'm okay," she assured him, quietly. "That was a few months ago, and Mom and Benji are fine."
Thirst finally kicked in, and she reached into her backpack to retrieve her water bottle. As she did so, she dislodged what looked like a small piece of paper stuck in the lining. She pulled it out, curious, and grinned when she saw the photo. "Hey, cool. I thought I lost this."
It was a rejected proof from the last time they'd gone to get a family photo, only a month ago. Benji, who'd just learned the fine art of grabbing things, had made a ninja grab for his mother's hair. So the photo showed little Ben on Mary Jane's lap, stuffing a lock of red hair in his mouth. Peter was chuckling, Mary Jane was alternating between freeing her hair from the jaws of doom and telling him to stop laughing, May was grinning and rolling her eyes. They didn't develop that proof, but she'd kept it because she said it was the most realistic.
OOC: I'll have reference pics later when I get home. The resemblance to Scott might not be that obvious; there's a beard, 15 years, and a lot more gray hair.
