"Good," Daisy said quietly. "We're not going anywhere without Rose and Claire."
Daisy and ducked around the corner. She crept down the hall on her bare feet, listening to the voices growing louder and more distinct. Definitely the panicked guard arguing with someone. Another guard? Probably.
Daisy glanced up, noting the surveillance cameras covering the hallway. Damn. So the guards could see her here. Only--if they could, why weren't they coming for her? Unless the arguing she could hear was distracting whoever ought to be watching the monitors.
Which could change at any minute. Daisy ran forward as quickly and quietly as she could. She took the corner wider than she intended, nearly losing her balance. The panicked guard was standing in the open doorway of a room that held banks of monitors, pointing at one screen. From within the room, Daisy heard another voice say, "Holy shit!"
He looked up as Daisy appeared around the corner. His eyes widened and he yelled. Daisy charged him. He flailed his arms, backpedaling into the room. He backed into the second guard, who was rising from his chair with a weapon in his hand.
Daisy put the panicked guard down with a touch and lunged for the second. She dropped him as well, but not before she felt the bite of the dart in her stomach. She swayed, suddenly woozy. Either they had increased the dosage since she was captured or her bloodloss left her more susceptible.
She told Ami, "Close the door, whydoncha?" and heard herself slurring her words. It took a few moments for Daisy to remember that Ami couldn't. She stumbled over and pushed it closed herself. Turning the deadbolt took a lot more effort than it should.
Daisy barely made it back to the guard's chair, falling heavily into the seat. She thought that Ami might be saying something, but she couldn't make it out. It was all she could do not to pass out.
