The fact that Ami hadn't teased Scott at all for asking Damon to stand guard while he used the co-locator was a testament to how ill at ease he was. Although he knew it was illogical and pointless, Scott's stomach tied into a knot whenever he thought about Daniel, Jon, and Aiden knowing about his family. Of the three Aiden worried him the least. One ex-cop was manageable. The U.S. Air Force, not so much.

"Stop," Ami said softly. She sat beside him on the bed and started kneading his neck. Muscles he hadn't realized he'd tensed relaxed a bit. /Daniel knowing about your father isn't the end of the world./

/That's not what's got me worried,/ Scott 'said' wearily. Ami's skeptical look spoke volumes. /All right, that's part of what I'm worrying about. It's the time dilations DHARMA's been messing with. First the bubble around the whole island, another around this place, and two time shifts we encountered getting here./ He frowned at the dormant co-locator sitting on the floor in the middle of the room. /Who knows how out of sync we are with the rest of the world now?/

After shifting to sit behind Scott, Ami began kneading his shoulders with both hands. Despite the comforting gesture, he'd felt her sober. /I'm sure that Kevin* and General Damon** are keeping an eye out for your parents./

Scott nodded. (Not that it'll matter much if I find 2010 inside the dome,) he thought miserably. (Or 2005 and the inside of a government lab with soldiers--)

"Megabyte's ready," Ami reported. "Claire and Aaron are asleep, so he'll keep watch from their room. No one will know what we're up to." She scooted beside Scott, took one of his hands, and nodded at the dormant security camera. "You're sure it's off?"

"Yeah. Disconnected the power cable to be sure." After giving his wife a kiss of love and gratitude Scott stood. /If it's safe I'll bring you inside./

Ami gave him a fond grin. /*When* it's safe./

Scott returned the best smile he could manage. He wasn't nearly as optimistic as he faced the silvery device and connected with his sphere in his pocket. Moments later the luminescent blue dome expanded from the co-locator, settling into a shimmering, translucent surface. After mustering his courage, Scott strode through the energy barrier, grateful for Ami's reassuring presence in the back of his mind.

Inside the dome was the same small room where he'd last seen his parents. Scott breathed a sigh of relief. /So far, so good. Dad's co-locator is in the same place,/ he told his wife.

Ami's pulse of reassurance felt far away from their attenuated link. /Good. See, everything's fine./

Scott allowed himself a little bit of optimism. Only a little because sunlight backlit the closed blinds over the single window, but neither of his parents had come to greet him. He shouted at the closed door on the opposite side of the curved barrier, "Mom! Dad!"

"Scott!" His mother's voice was muffled by the closed door. Scott heard Jenny's rapid footsteps approach. She burst into the room, stopping at the edge of the translucent dome. She held a stick of some sort*** in her right hand. "Scott, thank god! Are you all right? We haven't heard from you in so long. Your father's at work. Bring me inside." Jenny pressed one hand against the energy barrier. Light rippled away from it.

Scott was torn between happiness and worry. "Mom, breathe. I'm okay." (Now, anyway,) he added silently. "How long has it been since the last time I was here?"

"Three weeks," Jenny replied. Scott gaped. "Your father and I were worried that something had happened."

Scott scowled. "Several somethings happened, but Ami and I are okay now. It's only been a week or so for us." He deliberately omitted the fact that Ami and the other women had been held captive for nearly two weeks. One time bubble was confusing enough.

"How..." Scott watched Jenny's hazy form on the other side of the dome shake her head. "Nevermind how. We don't have much time until the co-locator becomes unstable." She pressed her hand against the barrier, causing more luminescent ripples. "Bring me inside. I want to see you."

"I don't think I should, Mom," Scott said reluctantly. "Under normal circumstances me reaching through the dome could be dangerous. Thanks to DHARMA circumstances are anything but normal." His mother's worry and concern carried across the barrier. Frowning, Scott decided to give it a try. He moved to the edge of the dome, holding his right hand just in front of his mother's left. "Okay. As soon as you feel my hand, push through."

Ami's worry conflicted with his mother's happiness. "I will," Jenny said.

Taking a deep breath, Scott pushed his fingertips through the shimmering barrier. Icy cold shot down his arm as his mother clasped his hand and stepped inside. He hissed from pain.

"Scott!" Ami shouted and thought.

Jenny shifted her grip to Scott's wrist as they both looked at his hand. "What happened?!"

"Cold," Scott ground through gritted teeth. He connected with his sphere in his pocket and mentally examined his bone-white fingertips. "Frostbite," he explained as he repaired the damaged tissue.

As soon as he finished Jenny threw her arms around him. "I'm sorry."

Scott returned the hug. "It's okay," he assured her. To Ami he thought, /Do you want to come inside? It's safe since we're from the same time and place./

OOC: Scott didn't ask Ripley to guard because she's still recovering.

[Ami]

Ami's calm faded as soon as she felt Scott's pain. Her mind ran through a million scenarios of the dorm destabilizing and taking her husband along with it, and it was only through sheer force of will that she pushed back the panic and upset. She didn't demand answers or that Scott return to her immediately, all of which flashed through her mind, and in the end it was a good thing. She wasn't particularly happy with the frostbite scenario, but she couldn't blame Scott for wanting to see and comfort his mother.

/Do you want to come inside? It's safe since we're from the same time and place,/ Scott said to her.

/Of course I want to come in!/ More to see for herself that he was well and whole and fine than through any curiosity pushing her to step into the dome. Ami'd had her fill of time distortions and space bubbles the last week, and she wasn't particularly keen on adding this bit of technology to the DHARMA bits. However, she wasn't particularly keen on leaving Scott out of sight and so tenuously connected to her either if she could help it.

Ami stood nearly nose and toe with dome and pressed her hand against it. It rippled a bit and she quickly withdrew the touch although the dome didn't yet betray its instability. /I'm ready./

[Ami] What Now?

As soon as Jenny's emotions shifted from happiness and welcome to astonishment and worry, Ami's hand instinctively rose to touch the spiral lock of silvery white at her temple. She felt Scott's surprise, confusion, and then frustration. Forcing her hand away from the errant lock, Ami turned her gaze towards her husband.

/What are we going to tell her?/ While Ami understood all the reasons that Scott would undoubtedly give her for wanting to tell Jenny the truth, her old protective instinct rose up. (The less said, the better, no need to worry the poor woman any more than she's already worried.) At least that was always Ami's tactic when dealing with her own mum; but this was Scott's mother and the decision would have to be his.

[Ami] What Next?

Ami shuddered as the dome collapsed, taking Jenny along with it. Concern flooded her and she lifted her face up to gaze intently at Scott. "Is she all right? She's back at her house, right?"

Scott nodded, hugging her tightly to him. "Technically she never left."

Resting her head on her husband's chest, Ami sighed. /I wish that we hadn't had to worry her like that./

/I know, so do I, but we - /

/Had to get the information to Bill,/ Ami finished. She desperately wanted to be rescued, wanted to see DHARMA pay, but she couldn't shake the nagging sensation that they wouldn't. That in the end, DHARMA would win. DHARMA had access to technology that they shouldn't have, that they were outside of the system, more outside of the system than even WorldEx was accustomed to dealing with.

Forcing the dark thoughts aside, Ami tilted her head up to look at her husband again. She fixed him with a half-smile, hoping to lighten the somber mood a bit, "At least I like my mother-in-law. I've heard that's not supposed to happen."

[Ami] Back to Bed?

Ami sat up again, mouth gaping slightly in surprise. /You're having me on!/

Her husband's grin broadened. Scott gave a tug on her wrist, pulling her body back down beside his. /No, I'm not having you on. I sensed it when Damon had me check to make sure Aaron was okay. Before he was born even./

/Does Claire know?/ Ami snuggled in close, resting her head on Scott's chest. The idle conversation was a good distraction from those things that were troubling him.

She felt Scott shrug. /Dunno. Probably not. I think Damon was trying to find a way to tell her./ One hand idly wound through her hair, toying with her curls and she let out a soft, contented purr.

/Empathic, red hair, I don't know... I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Megabyte and Claire didn't get drunk some night somewhere and just don't remember it./ Ami giggled.

/Ha ha,/ Megabyte retorted, picking up on her purposely projected words. /Trust me, I'd remember./

"Hey," her husband tightened his hold on her in mock reproach, /I'm the one you're supposed to be paying attention to./

Ami stretched out against him, pressing her body fully against his. She tossed one leg over his and nuzzled his neck and shoulder. Her breath whispered against his skin, "I'm happy to pay attention to you."

This time, she wouldn't push the issue. If Scott felt that she still needed to rest and recover, she'd take his word for it.
