Who: Ami
Where: The Staff, Kitchen
When: Day 28, Sometime between noon and 1PM
Invited: Open to all
Status: Incomplete

Finding her way to the kitchen was easier this time around. Knowing where one is going always makes it easier to get there. The artificial lights – Ami couldn't remember what they were called, but she knew that they mimicked outside sunlight – shone brightly making her think that it was supposed to be indicative of midday. A quick check of the clock on the wall in the surprisingly empty kitchen confirmed that.

Ami walked straightway to the actual kitchen area and began to look in the cupboards and the refrigerator. Someone had started a list of supplies, but it was wholly incomplete. Ami was tempted to work on it until her stomach reminded her – loudly – of her reason for being in the kitchen.

Five minutes of rummaging later, Ami had found a large soup pot, a combination of fresh, frozen and canned vegetables, and noodles. She passed on the beef and chicken flavored buillon and instead stuck to seasonings for the water in the pot.

"Vegetable soup it is," Ami declared to no one in particular and set about cutting the fresh carrots, all the while wondering about the oddities of fresh vegetables on a tropical island.

Being the center of attention, even if he'd done it to himself, was clearly not Scott's thing. The fact that Isabel accepted his claim at face value and Chloe was plainly curious helped.

Trying to ignore House's skeptical frown, Scott fished his sphere from his pocket. "What's that?" Chloe asked.

Scott's hand closed more tightly around the metal ball. "It's, um..." (Fuck. This was a really bad idea.)

/Go on, Scott./ The gentle encouragement that Ami sent across their link felt wonderful. /Even if they're frightened at first, you're *helping* Isabel. They can't fault you for that./

Scott sent back a pulse of gratitude and wrenched his fingers open. The fluorescent light gleamed dully off of the silvery orb. "I'm not really sure, but it helps me. A tool, I guess."

"Oh." Questions shone in Chloe's unnaturally green eyes, but she didn't voice them.

"Okay." Scott turned to Isabel, enclosing the sphere in his fist again. "This is going to make some noise, like a hum, and I'm not sure how long this'll take. But I'm sure I can do it."

He reached for her hand with his free one. When she nodded Scott grasped her hand then had to fight a knee-jerk instinct to pull back.

/What?/

/Scott!/

The first voice was Isabel's; the second Ami's. He tried to speak to both at once. /You're, um, you're not human. Not fully./

/Isabel?/ Ami asked. Scott sent a pulse of acknowledgement along their link.

Isabel frowned slightly, but held Scott's gaze. /You can tell by touch alone?/

/Yes./

Scott felt her mulling the idea over for a few moments. Then, /Are you human?/

/Not fully,/ Scott admitted. /I don't know what the other part of me is any more than I know what yours is. Except that we're different./

/Yes,/ Isabel replied thoughtfully. /Interesting./ Then she grinned. /Could you do something about my itch feet now?/

Scott found himself grinning back. Isabel's easy acceptance was wonderful. /Sure./ His mind reached for the silver sphere. It hummed and glowed when he connected with it. He started with one of the shallow, nearly healed cuts and followed instinct.

Ironically, healing was like riding a bike. As Scott mended tissue and directed dead cells to the lymph system the hows and whys of what he was doing came back to him. The concentration required helped him ignore the whispered conversation Chloe and House were having.

Several minutes later Scott sat up straight, dropping his attention from the sphere. Sweat had beaded on his forehead and he felt a bit drained. "Done," he grinned.

OOC: If Isabel's out of character let me know and I'll repost. Also, Scott pushed the sutures out of Isabel's skin. It wouldn't be fun to have to pull them out.

"I know," Isabel said in a tone of wonder. "That was amazing."

She pushed her wheelchair back from the table and pulled the bandages and dressings from her feet. Pieces of suture fell out, and she examined her feet which were now perfect and healthy. Gingerly, she stood up and smiled.

"Thank you," she said to Scott. "Thank you very much." It wasn't enough to just say it, but she couldn't think of anything else to do. She put a hand over his and projected her gratitude to him, let him feel the depth of it.

/Thank you/

It had been strange to watch from inside her mind as Scott had healed her. It seemed lke she'd seen it before, and she found herself contemplating the possibility of using her own abilities for healing. Something inside her shied away from that though. Too complicated. Too much to go wrong. Someone else would be good at it.

And Scott had said... she was an alien. Or part alien. The notion didn't seem wrong, she thought as she sat back down again. Judging by the reactions other people had to her abilities, it hadn't been likely that she was an ordinary human being.

She looked at Scott, frowning slightly. What kind of alien? And were she and Scott the same kind, or from different places?

Scott's healing of Isabel was pretty unexciting to watch. A faint hum and a hint of blue glow leaking from the fist that clutched the metal marble was all Chloe could see. Otherwise he simply held onto her hand and sat with his eyes closed. Concentrating hard, Chloe assumed, because a film of perspiration gathered on his forehead.

Eventually Scott relaxed and opened his eyes. Chloe was about to ask Is that it? when Isabel eagerly tore off the bandages on her feet, revealing smooth, unbroken pink skin. Now that was impressive.

"Wow," Chloe said, "she's right--that's amazing! What else can you do?"

Isabel and Scott looked at her and Chloe felt her cheeks warm. Scott hadn't been eager to reveal himself; more like he felt obliged to do what he could to help Isabel despite his reservations. And Isabel was still glorying in her newly healed status.

"Sorry," Chloe said, "I don't mean to--I just...ask a lot of questions, I guess."

"You're welcome," Scott said aloud and telepathically to Isabel. (Another half-alien. Whodathunkit?)

Chloe piped up, "Wow, she's right--that's amazing! What else can you do?"

Scott frowned at the incredibly attractive young woman. Although he wasn't particularly eager to share, he had just made a blatant display of his healing ability.

Meanwhile Chloe blushed, chagrinned. "Sorry. I don't mean to--I just...ask a lot of questions, I guess."

"It's okay," Scott said with the best smile he could muster. He'd already admitted to his other abilities anyway. "As far as I know, healing, telekinesis, empathy, and a little telepathy."

"Telepathy?" Chloe echoed. She seemed intrigued and a bit wary.

Scott shrugged. "Only with other telepaths, and even then it's difficult." He nodded at Isabel. "Just now I learned that I could hear and speak with Isabel, but I think it was due to physical contact." Scott faced the gorgeous half-alien, who'd withdrawn her hand. /Can you hear me?/ Aloud he promped, "Anything?"

Isabel shook her head.

"I guess I'm not wired that way," Scott supposed. After seeing how Isabel, Ami, and the other two telepaths had reacted to "the Doctor's" shout-out, he didn't mind one bit.

(Wow,) Chloe thought. (That's quite a laundry list of abilities.) Thinking about what she'd read on her laptop in the files on numerous "meteor freaks" she was struck by the realization that those individuals all seemed to have a single unusual ability.

(And here Scott has a handful.) One of which, telepathy, made her a little uneasy. A telepath could pry into your mind, uncovering all your secrets. Chloe didn't like that thought--and felt a little hypocritical for it.

It was clear from what she'd written, both on the computer and in her journal, that she was insatiably curious. She poked and prodded and questioned people incessantly, driven to uncover any secrets she came across. If she had Scott's gift she suspected she'd use it. A lot. It was probably just as well that she didn't.

Thinking about her journal reminded that she'd been hanging around with Veronica back at the beach camp. She'd written that Veronica too was really inquisitive. Chloe wondered if Veronica had kept a journal; if she had, Chloe hadn't noted it.

Perhaps she should ask. There might be more information there. Chloe looked at Isabel. "I'm glad you're better," she said. "That was really cool," she added, addressing Scott. "Daniel mentioned journals--I want to check on someone else who might've been keeping one. I'll talk to you two later, okay?"
