“Sir, I think you should see this.” The lab tech fairly bubbled with excitement as he addressed his superior. He was respectful, but clearly certain he had found something of importance.

The middle age man known by so many uncomplimentary monikers by his guests followed the young scientist into the main lab.

“This better be very good, Johnson.” The man did not look amused, or anticipatory.

“Oh, it is sir. Please, have a look.” He gestured to the electramicroscope in the corner. “The base injections were all given, immediately, as ordered. These will prepare the dna for the gene therapies. But as the process takes time, we won’t be starting introducing the therapies for at least another forty-eight hours.”

“Johnson, if you are going to quote the timetable I wrote..”

“Sir, please, just look,” the tech pointed to the advanced microscope again.

The superior bent over the eyepieces, not wanting to turn on the viewscreen to share whatever Johnson thought he had found.

His eyes widened.

“This is subcellular.” It wasn’t a question.

“Yes. I believe it’s actually merging with the DNA. It’s been there, but the base injections have actually advanced it.” Johnson was speaking fast now.

“Do you have any idea what this is?” It was more than interesting. It was profound.

“Energy of some sort. But more than that. It’s some completely new element, so completely unlike anything we’ve seen before. Forgive me , sir. But I think, in light of this discovery, it would be unwise to implement the full therapy on this subject. This is a variable that couldn’t have been foreseen. The results would be too unpredictable, it might even be a waste of resources as they could prove either fatal or neutralized by this… whatever it is.” Johnson looked not so much excited as nervous to be voicing this concern.

“You’re certain she’s human.” The superior kept staring, fascinated, by the swirling threads of gold weaving so very finely through the DNA.

“Yes sir. The DNA is definitely human. Well, it’s basically human. Whatever this is, it’s making subtle changes, I think.” Johnson scratched his head.

“It looks like Ms. Tyler is just full of surprises, isn’t she?” The superior stood upright. “Make thorough record of everything. I want a full report, including theories, on my desk by this evening.
