Five, maybe six days into her captivity, she'd lost count at the beginning and couldn't be certain, Ami's life fell into a routine: breakfast, shower, "interview" with Ethan, lunch and then an indeterminate stretch where she might be left to her devices, subjected to more blood tests and injections, or drilled and questioned by a clinically cold Asian woman. While Ethan psychoanalyzed her, always under the pretense of making her life "here more comfortable" – and Ami never for one moment doubted that it was pretense – the woman bombarded her with questions regarding her abilities and how far she could stretch them. Unlike Ethan, Dr. Sakai – Ami tricked the dinner nurse, Steph, into revealing the name of the woman on the fourth evening – did not hold the captivity of Ami's friends over her head as a threat, though she did reveal and hint at far deeper and greater knowledge than she should have had regarding Ami and Megabyte, the Tomorrow People in general, Scott, Walt, River and Mara than the woman should have been privy to.

Sakai's questions were concise and direct without subterfuge. When they were not, they were simply confusing and frustrating and often embarrassing.

"Did either of your parents have paranormal abilities?"

"No," Ami repeated the same answer that she'd given the day before and the day before that. "I've told you this before. No, my parents were both perfectly normal."

"Grandparents? Aunts? Uncles? Cousins?"

"No already! Am I even speaking English?"

"No brothers or sisters?"

Ami folded her arms beneath her breasts and glared at the woman from the pseudo-safety of her bed. She'd long grown tired of answering the same questions over and over again.

Dr. Sakai returned her stare for a long moment. Finally, heaving a sigh, she flipped to another page in her clipboard. "Are you fertile? Have you ever monitored or measured your fertility?"

*That* was new. Ami actually felt herself frown before she could stop it. "I don't know. No. Why would I?"

"Is your partner fertile?"

"What's that got to do with anything? You're holding me here to find out what Scott's sperm count is? Rather have that arse over tit, don't you, then?" Ami learned early on that trying not to name names or identify her fellow survivors and castaways served no practical purpose. Sakai knew the people, and pretending only made the questioning sessions drag onward.

"How often would you say that you and Mr. Hayden engaged in sexual intercourse on a daily basis?"

The question angered her, mortified her and saddened her all at once. It was none of this woman's business, this woman – this pseudo-doctor who held her captive against her will and was keeping her *away* from Scott, didn't have the right to ask such things or to expect an answer. The asking itself reminded her of the ache and emptiness she felt, of the hollow just beyond her senses where Scott should have been, but couldn't be felt.

"None of your bloody business."

"Did you have intercourse the morning before you were brought here?"

"I'm not going to answer that!"

She didn't answer, and those questions were never asked again.

"Uh...what?" Ami asked.

"Just poke your head through the door. I think they're sneaking up to the door--one of the cameras is out," Daisy said. She pointed at a monitor which was now displaying only static. "I need to know when they're right outside the door.

"Oh," Ami said. And after a moment, "Oh!" She even managed to muster a faint smile.

Daisy smiled back. "Exactly." She laid the shotgun down on the console and then moved over by the door. "Just point at me when someone is right outside the door."

Ami stepped halfway through the door, her visible hand upraised. Daisy waited. She could tell by Ami's body language when someone came close. Ami dropped her hand to point in Daisy's general direction and Daisy heard her voice, muffled by the door. "Now!"

Daisy turned the knob and yanked the door open. A security guard, caught in the act of creeping up to the door, froze for a moment. Long enough for Daisy to reach out and press her hand against his chest, fingers spread.

She pushed. He fell over backwards, limp as a corpse. And simultaneously she closed her fist on his shirt and yanked him into the security room, slamming the door shut again. This time she threw the bolt.

The guard was shaking and hyperventilating as he looked around frantically. "Talk to me," Daisy said to him. "What's the plan?"

/Ami./

The whispered voice in her head pulled Ami's attention away from Daisy and the questioning of the guard. She heard words like "unexpected," "no plan," "lockdown" and "evacuate" but she wasn't really paying attention to them. It was that familiar voice, wispy and whispery though it was in her head that held her.

(Megabyte.)

/Megabyte! I'm here!/

/Can you hear me?/

/Yes! I'm here! I can hear you./

/Ami?/

She almost answered again, then thought better of it. She could *feel* him, she could *sense* him, but in this form she couldn't contact him, not in any way that he could hear and sense. Which made perfect sense in a rather twisted way; as far as she knew, no Tomorrow People were gifted with the ability to see ghosts.

(But they're here, they're coming and I have to talk to him.)

Ami closed her eyes and focused as best she could, sending a wave of acknowledgement and presence to her friend, before turning to the control room and Daisy.

"Daisy, I have to go back," Ami interrupted the interrogation.

"What? What do you mean?"

"My body. I have to go back to it. They're coming for us and I need to talk to M – Damon. Telepathically. It's what we do. I heard him, but he can't hear me. I think it's because I'm … like this."

Daisy could feel the huge grin that spread across her face. "John's coming?" She'd known that he would, but knowing that he was nearly here--well, she suddenly felt light enough to fly. It seemed like forever since she'd seen him. Or touched him. Or been held by him. To say nothing of--

"I have to get back," Ami repeated, interrupting Daisy's thoughts. Daisy glanced at Ami. She was practically dancing with urgency. But then, she was probably just as eager to get back to Scott--and scared by her situation. That kind of out-of-body experience was probably very nerve-wracking.

"all right," Daisy said. She picked up the shotgun and worked the slide--ejecting an unfired shell in the process, which kind of ruined the Action Heroine image she was going for. But what the hell. "Want to check outside again?"

While Ami popped outside, Daisy looked over the monitors. Nurse Ratched Jr. was wheeling Claire out of her room. Claire didn't seem unhappy, but that didn't look like a good idea to Daisy. If They (tm) were really going to evacuate, the last thing Daisy wanted was to let them move Claire.

"There's nobody out there," Ami said. "Except this guy lying on the floor," she amended, pointing at the guard with a thumb. "Maybe they really are evacuating."

"Maybe," Daisy said. "But it looks like they're moving Claire. I don't think we should let them."
