The sun warmed Ami's body, the lush and earthy scent of trees and damp ground all around her. She blinked her eyes open, stretching luxuriously on the cool grass. Her arm encountered something – warm, soft, firm – and she rolled over onto her side to see Scott lying beside her on his back. One arm thrown across his eyes, his chest rose and fell in as he took deep, slow breaths.
Ami's heart swelled and she smiled.
With gentle fingertips, Ami reached out and ran her fingers lightly through his hair, noting the single strands of gray sprinkled within the darker strands. (That wasn't there before.)
Before what?
No sooner had she phrased the thought, she remembered. Ami shuddered slightly, fear and panic beginning to slowly crescendo until Scott stirred slightly.
It was over. He'd come for her. Just as she knew he would.
She slid closer, slipping one of her legs between his, a very palatable relief rising from her. Her lips brushed his lightly, /I always knew you'd rescue me, love. I missed you so very much./

Wrapping her arms around him, Ami rested her cheek on his shoulder. /I don't know. Your head. Or mine maybe. I'm pretty sure we're dreaming./
Yes, that was it. The feeling was right, the sense of it all was right. Either she was dreaming or they were dreaming together.
Ami paused and hugged him tightly as she recalled the events leading up and during the rescue. /I think that this is the only way I can communicate with you right now./

Date: 2006-08-20 11:36 pm (UTC)She responded eagerly, hungrily, desperately – perhaps a little too wanting, too needy and too desperate, but Ami didn't care. She was a starving woman given her first meal in days, a drowning woman finally being thrown a life preserver. Scott's mouth, his hands, his body, his mind were her sustenance, her oxygen, her lifeline, her lover, her husband, her soul mate . . . her everything.

Date: 2006-08-21 10:45 pm (UTC)Those were the only words spoken during the time they spent together. Anything else would require the acknowledgement of the past few days -- or several days, from Ami's point of view. Instead they quietly savored being together.
