Who: Aeryn Sun and John Crichton
When: Evening, Day 28
Where: The crashed pod/ship
Invited: OPEN
Status: Incomplete

Aeryn walked beside John, slowing her pace to his slightly more sedate measure. They'd made a satisfying start and she was trying hard not to ruin that. She stole a quick glance sideways and it took no imagination for her to realise the look of grim determination on his face was a mirror for her own.

Chewing thoughtfully on her bottom lip, she pulled open the door to the outside, then stopped dead in her tracks when she realised how hot and humid the rain had made it. In fact, if John hadn't ended up slightly behind her, she would have stepped backwards.

She glanced up at him, a worried look in her eyes. "I don't think I can..." she stopped, aware that she was showing a moment of weakness, without thinking. It made her even more thoughtful that, given problematic situations, she would turn to John, on a whim of instinct. "I don't think I can go out in that, John" she finally finished her sentence. "At least, not until it's cooler..."

Chewing thoughtfully on her bottom lip, she pulled open the door to the outside, then stopped dead in her tracks when she realised how hot and humid the rain had made it. In fact, if John hadn't ended up slightly behind her, she would have stepped backwards.

John had to pull up short to avoid running into the back of Aeryn as she suddenly came to an abrupt halt just inside the door to the outside. He caught himself and took half a step back so that she wouldn't feel crowded. "What's up, you okay?"

John tilted his head with a small frown as he looked from her to the muggy outdoors and back to Aeyrn again. "It's not raining anymore, and it's just a little humid, and in this place I really don't think anyone's going to care about a little frizzy hair" he gave her a smile and started to walk past her to head outside but stopped. Something struck him and he turned to look at her, studying her with quiet intensity. "You ... can't tolerate heat ..." he said, it wasn't a question. "It ... it's deadly ... to you ..."

"I didn't suffer in the crash, though."

John nodded a little, glancing back outside, chewing on the inside of one cheek. She was right, she hadn't, or at least, hadn't appeared too. But that could have been adrenaline, or shock, or any number of other medical things he didn't know about.

"I just feel uncomfortable thinking about going out there and..." she stopped and shook her head. "I hope I'm not being silly, but I'm really worried that being here, I won't last long."

He looked back at her with a comforting smile, "No, hey, come on, that's not being silly. I wouldn't want to do something that was potentially lethal to me either. Survival instinct and all that, and I kinda prefer you alive." He reached out to grasp one of her shoulders, giving it a light squeeze before releasing her and gesturing a thumb over his shoulder. "Tell you what, I'll go on out to the crash site and take a look around, let you know what I find. Then, when it gets cooler, we can both go back together. Deal?"

John folded his arms across his chest and lean one shoulder against the door-jam, looking at her for a moment. "Well, I imagine that you're probably looking for some kind of clue as to : a. who we are, b. whether or not I killed someone as you suspect I did and c. what exactly it was we were looking for before we arrived wherever the hell it is we are now." He tilted his head as he gazed at her, one brow raised. "That about right?"

Suddenly and on impulse, she kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry" she whispered "But I'm trying."

John stood still for a moment as she kissed his cheek, her lips leaving a small ring of fire on his skin and sending a small shiver down his spine. He reached out slowly to cup her cheek, thumb gliding gently over her cheekbone before drawing his hand away. "Nothing to be sorry for," he told her quietly, "we're on a mixed up crazy world with no real recollection of who or what we are," he shrugged a little, "it's enough to make anyone question everything." He pushed away from the door-jam, "I'll head on out to scope things out, you can wait here. I'll bring back whatever I find."

"I suppose I should really try and find a bunk for the night. It gives me a chance to do something."

John nodded, he was about to say they could bunk together, but thought better of it. They'd made progress and he didn't want to wash it away with one careless word. "Yeah okay, I'm sure one of the other ladies in this place would be glad to offer you a room with them," just so long as it wasn't one of the other men, he added silently to himself. "I'm actually bunking with two brothers, Sam and Dean, I think they're names are." He shrugged and started to head out. "I shouldn't be too long, I'll find you when I get back."

At The Crash Site

John made his way back through the jungle, trying his very best not to get lost. He followed the path that he was fairly sure they had taken previously, making sure to keep track of markers. It wouldn't do to find the crash site and then not know how to find his way back. He gave a laugh of victory as he came upon the burnt and mangled wreckage, shaking his head at the sight of the small craft, lying in a pile of burnt and charred underbrush.

"Sorry old girl," he said as he walked up to the craft, reaching out a hand to pat the cool hull gently. He made his way over to the broken and burnt wing section and started to clamber on. He made his way up the craft to where the front window had been broken in when Aeryn had been rescued. He blew out a soft breath and slowly started to make his way inside. He had no idea what he would find, and was half hoping he wouldn't find anything at all.
